Steps to Hiring Staff to Help You Run Your New Franchise

Are you currently seeking staff for your new franchise?

Hiring the right staff is one of the most important aspects when running your own business. These people are the front line to your customers. Selecting staff is a process of building your dream team. Having the right team on board, your franchise will flourish.

In this article, we will provide you with some proven tips for finding quality employees to help you run your new franchise. Are you ready? Let’s begin.

First of all, place a detailed ad and be very clear about what you are looking for in an employee. Clearly demonstrate what their responsibilities will entail and present their accountabilities. In addition, clearly indicate the type of employee and qualifications that you are seeking. For instance, if you are seeking a paralegal with extensive family law background, then clearly state that in your job ad.

Secondly, once you’ve placed the ad, you’ll need to screen applicants with a phone interview. During your initial contact, you may want to pay attention to how your potential employee answers the phone when you call them and how they respond to your questions. Are they friendly, polite and respectful? These will be a pretty good indication of how they will act towards you in person and most importantly your customers. Once you reviewed the applicants, it is now time to schedule them for a face-to-face interview. When scheduling the interview, make sure it is done at a mutually convenient time and place. In addition, be somewhat flexible with your availability.

Thirdly, conduct a preliminary review of prospects. Pay close attention to how the prospect approaches you. Notice whether they drag their feet in dismay or walk confidently toward you. Look into their eyes when you speak to them and see if they look back into yours. Keep in mind that there are people who will look at you straight in the eye and lie, however, generally someone who looks you in the eye during a conversation is showing you with their body language that they are honest and respectful. Also, pay close attention to their handshake - many people put a lot of emphasis on the importance of a handshake. If it’s loose, they lack confidence, if it’s firm, they are confident and outgoing.

Fourthly, interview prospects to make sure they are a good fit. During the interview, ask your interviewee why they want the position. Do they think they will be good at it? Are they experienced? If they are inexperienced, they may feel confident in their ability to learn quickly. If someone has enough stamina to do something, even if it is totally foreign to them, keep in mind that they can learn fast and become very successful. Also, find out about their educational background. Keep in mind that people who are better educated are not necessarily smarter, but more ambitious and goal-oriented than those who have for example no diploma or GED. Question where they see themselves in a certain number of years (i.e. 1, 2, 5, etc.). Do they plan on staying with the franchise and advancing to a long-term leadership position? If the answer is “yes”, then they are a worth more as far as hiring costs because if they at least intend on staying for a while, it is less likely they will work for a week or so and then quit. This saves your franchise money and gets you off on the right foot and headed for success.

In conclusion, always consider the importance of body language when hiring new staff for your franchise. . Remember that during the interview you feel the prospect out. What is their goal as an employee and as a member of society? These things will give you a pretty good outlook on how successful your and your customers’ experience will be with this person. Your staff is the frontline to your customers and hiring the right people is about completing your franchise dream. Good luck and have fun with your new franchise – may it be profitable and bring you joy!
